Families really love a private party
You would think that powerful social media leaders would endorse big group parties. After all, their perspective is based upon socializing with all of the world wide web.
But I found it interesting that one of the biggest names in social networking discussed his Facebook personal account, which he manages just for those he is closest too. I completely understand why Chris Brogan’s family runs on Facebook, in what could be considered a private party.
Chris has many friends within the internet social space, including Facebook. I am grateful for his connection with me in a few of these web networks and our brief discussions on family in the past. I know that he keeps his family close in both life and business.
Keeping our family close is why parties are so important to our culture of social support and love. Family parties are closed events; private and intimate expressions based upon personal deep-rooted connection.
The same individuals who attend a huge gala party at the civic center to improve their social status, crave the private party in the family room to celebrate the important life-events of those whom they love.
Facebook has become just one tool in providing families various levels of communication, from broad to intimate.
Our family has used these internet tools as a way to stay personally connected in a spirit of love and support, no matter the distance.
The massive world of the web has given us back our private party. What about you?

Endorsements for white elephant Fun and Games!
You can’t have a great party unless there is some sort of group activity that breaks the ice and spools-up the fun. Usually these activity involve a game that gets everyone talking and escalates the engagement…
There is a growing number of thought leaders who are suggesting that fun and games will put a happy face on the world. Chris Brogan suggests that we take some time and watch a video presentation by Jane McGonigal, a game expert.
Ms McGonigal’s thoughts seem to endorse the work that we are doing to provide family and friends an opportunity to play games together and then share real gifts during important life events.
She shared some wonderful ideas on how to change the world by playing games. She suggests that we have a highly trained and skilled group of problem solvers, involved in game play. She claims that if we channel their efforts in one direction, we could see remarkable results for the people of the earth.
We are training ourselves to solve world problems with games…
The average 21 year-old will have spent 10,000 hours playing games, or about the same time they will have spent in their school studies. There are 500 million people on the planet that spend at least 1-hour per day in games. So the training system seem to be in place to fix many problems.
Here is a real world problem that affects millions of dispersed families: Gifts arrive by a delivery service in a rather dull manner and without any emotion…. just a delivery guy and a brown box…
What would a gamer suggest to solve this problem?
You are correct… A GAME!
The gamer solution would be to add in some fun memories that could be triggered when the box arrives at the door and find a way to bring back the excitement of sharing gifts into a virtual white elephant gift game.
The McGonigal video tells us that “games create a supportive structure that helps bring our best self forward” and supporting research suggests that “we like people better after we play a game with them… Even if they treat us badly.. it builds trust, bonds and cooperation”. Games within a close group of family or friends only increases the odds of a good result.
It makes perfect sense that we could cooperate and solve many pressing world issues, if we took a fun and games approach to these problems.
The gaming industry is a hot investment right now, with game developers receiving big investment deals, and major entertainment companies entering the gaming space. This should only add to the “game as a problem solver” opportunities on the internet.
The world of fun and games is expanding and we are thrilled to see this playing out in front of us every day…
We have designed AlbinoPhant to be a white elephant game that can be played online. So all of this notoriety for fun and games is basically and endorsement for the online white elephant gift exchange.

What do you think of this model, Chris Brogan?
“The Internet has given us simple means to create businesses out of nothing. But to sustain them, we need solid models. What’s yours”? This is the ending statement and final question in a post from Chris Brogan’s blog. I appreciate the idea of a simple explanation of the model. So Chris, here is my attempt to define our business model: DISTRIBUTION Modeled after UPS… Yes, this party game and the coming network of other party games are a Distribution system… Here is how: Over time some of the people we care about become dispersed to other parts of the country. This dispersion creates a problem for moving items between these individuals in an efficient manner. UPS recognized this problem and in the early 1900′s began delivering messages and packages to the dispersed businesses in Seattle, Washington. Over time they expanded to cover the world in distributing the important items of families, friends and businesses. UPS has a business model built on serving the distribution needs of those who find delivering goods in person is not a viable option. They use conveyor belts, airplanes and brown trucks as their tools in building a very successful enterprise. Their service facilitates the movement of things from one spot to another in an efficient way; so UPS is a Model of Distribution. Our model of distribution is built on the need to have gifts distributed to dispersed family and friends. The gifts that are needed to demonstrate support and love during very important life events. Gifts that would be delivered in person, if it was possible. UPS can deliver the box holding the gift, but they do not distribute the love… Our tools include UPS, but also add in the services of Facebook, Amazon and PayPal. Our distribution model involves the extra services of connection and interaction which are lost when a gift is not delivered in person. Our distribution service facilitates the fun that can accompany the act of gift giving to someone who is close to our heart, but far from our person. So Chris… There you have it…. What do you think?

We are in GIFT DISTRIBUTION

Color in some fun… Your masterpiece deserves it!
We have a 3-year old grandson staying with us for a while. I have noticed his coloring books… He colors outside of the lines most of the time.
He uses several colors as he randomly selects the crayons from the box and applies them to the printed images.
I am not sure if he uses so many colors because he is bored with what one crayon delivers, or because the box holds so many choices that he believes that he must try them all…
On the other hand, I have a 6-year old granddaughter who is meticulous about her coloring. Her images demonstrate her ability to stay within the lines and a thoughtful choice of just a few colors from the box.
Both of these efforts hang on our walls with equal value to their grandparents. Each represent an expression of the fun that coloring can bring to a child, and the love that families can share using simple things.
How do you use your crayons?
Take 5-minutes to explore why fun will bring a little color to your life.
A thank you to Chris Brogan for introducing this video to us…
Life is a party, that plays out in full-color and includes coloring inside and outside of the lines…
We are committed to finding fun in life and sharing it with our family and friends.
Why not color your life with just a little bit more fun too…?

Trampled by a crowd and enjoying it
Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week I plan to be trampled by 14 little feet…
And, I will enjoy every minute of it!
For more than a year I have been working hard to build an online party application that will demonstrate the value of giving real gifts through social networks. We are still working on many bugs and finishing several projects so that it will perform as it should. I have many tasks that remain on the to-do list….
But this week all of my grandchildren will be in our home, and I plan to just lie on the floor and let them crawl all over me.
I will probably get drooled upon, find spit-up in my hair, and be exposed to a dirty diaper or two… Nevertheless, I have looked forward to these days since last summer, when we found that all of our five children and their families would be in Oregon for Christmas.
Even though I really want people to receive the benefits of giving real gifts online; and I know that I could move the process forward right now, I will neglect, at least for a while, this start-up venture and fill my time with some of the true gifts in my life…
These little people are the best gifts from our great family relationships. The seven wiggling, giggling little people have become more precious to me than anything that the Amazon/AlbinoPhant market could ever display.
The happy faces and joyous sounds will push aside any frustrations that I might be experiencing with a development team who is moving slower than I want.
The happy trampling will remove from my thoughts the need to market this new niche for the internet.
These youngsters will be the focus of my time commitments for the end of week, so the business will have to wait. My gift to my 7 grandchildren will be TIME… (grandma has a tree full of regular presents for them)
Chris Brogan discussed his time commitment for this holiday period, and I respect his choice to put in some extra effort while the “iron is hot”. But for me, I will turn it all off and just lay down in the middle of the floor and enjoy some of the gifts that my life has given me.
This party application is an out-growth of our family relationships. It had its beginnings in a game that we have used to keep us closer; so in some ways my decision to spend time being trampled is demonstration of the importance of our party.
It has been five years since our last family gathering, so will take this time to bond with those I love and enjoy the trampling of 14 little feet…
Merry Christmas.
